It is very polarised and hard to predict because nothing one side says or does can sway the others.

Trump has a strong following among the Whites and is playing to their sense of insecurity that their country has been taken away from them and is now run by an unholy cabal of coastal elites, minorities and liberals. To this group of hardcore supporters is added a fair number of minorities who favour his policies like lower taxes or disgruntled with the Democratic party leadership for not delivering on past promises.

The Democrats have the support of the majority of the minority voters, college educated elites especially from the coastal states and liberals.

One or other of these 2 groups are a clear majority in most states and it appears in equal numbers to capture the electoral college votes. It comes down to who can win the majority of the electoral college votes in the seven swing states. In all seven states both parties are within a tight margin from each other so it can easily swing either way. Both parties are looking for last minute dirt to undermine any small support from the other side.

This election will be decided by the few people who are still undecided by the theatrics of the two parties. If they are convinced by the fear promoted by the Republicans then Trump will prevail. But if they believe the Democrats are serious about change and uniting the country then Kamala will win.

But of course there is a small chance that the media and pollsters got it wrong again and the race is actually less competitive and a few of the non swing states might pull a surprise.
