The 2024 US Elections

Why is it so close? Kamala winning is not going to bridge the huge divide that exists in the US today.

The Democrats have learned not to label Republicans that support Trump as deplorables. Weird is diplomatically less controversial.

But how can the country come back together again when half the country either hates the other half or is condescending towards it?

Instead of attacking the Republicans for picking a flawed human being as their leader the Democrats should address their own record and clearly state how they would do better if given another chance.

Why are many Blacks, Latinos and Asians supporting Trump? Can tens of millions of people be irrational?

Perhaps it could be that Democratic leaning voters are disappointed with Presidents that they elected but did little to improve their lives while in office. And maybe Trump while in office was not the demon he was made out to be.

Obama and Mrs can castigate Blacks and Latinos for supporting Trump but do they owe them anything? Certainly the Obamas have done well personally by winning the White House but have Blacks and Latinos done better during his term of office compared to Trump? Did the inequality of income widen under the Democrats and the influence of elites and major corporations grown even more?

Trump is a deceptive character. But even here the case for the Democrats is not clear cut. They stood solidly behind Biden even though it was obvious to everyone that he did not have the stamina to complete his current term in office and much less to assume a new term. And Kamala Harris would stand no chance to be where she is today but for Biden’s decision to select her as his VP candidate to get the Black votes during the last elections. Biden might be a nicer guy than Trump but he too has skeletons in his family closet.

The US economic performance post Covid maybe the best among the advanced nations but it’s record on handling inflation is dismal.

Long response but my sentiment is towards Kamala. It is hardly a contest between the devil and an angel. It is between two self serving politicians. I just hope that if Kamala wins she will work tirelessly at correcting the many flaws within the US that systemically disadvantaged the underdogs. Blaming the other side for her inability to do so might be an even worse reelection strategy in 2028 than it is today!
